A Kate Harris for William Hutton Art Nouveau Teaspoon
Manufacturer - William Hutton
Date - 1898
Description - A lovely Art Nouveau teaspoon designed at the height of the movement by Kate Harris for the renowned silversmith William Hutton & Sons. Harris’s work for Hutton is celebrated for its fluid lines and organic motifs, and this spoon is a particularly evocative example from the earliest phase of her career.
The terminal features a young maiden peering out between two rising flower stems, the composition giving the impression that she is gently enclosed or imprisoned between bars. This interplay of figure and foliage is characteristic of Harris’s emerging style: romantic, slightly mysterious, and unmistakably Art Nouveau.
