An Arts and Crafts Period, Birmingham 1931, Silver Sugar Shaker
Manufacturer - F Sheldon, Birmingham
Date - 1931
Description - A substantial and imposing Arts and Crafts silver sugar shaker, the cylindrical body beautifully engraved with sinuous trails of scrolling tendrils and stylised flowers, interspersed with alternating ladder-pattern bands. The fixing rim is decorated with a linear thread-and-ribbon border, while the base is finished with delicate beading.
The domed lid features striking chevron piercings divided by vertical twin bands, creating a pleasing contrast of texture and form. Particularly noteworthy are the three fixing lugs to the base of the lid, an unusual and rarely encountered feature on shakers of this type.
